Accessibility statement

This statement applies to meritandmethod.co.uk. I am not legally required to publish one. I do because I write bids for organisations that are, and it seems reasonable to hold myself to the standard I would write about on their behalf.

Conformance

This website aims to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA. I believe it is fully conformant, with the caveats set out below.

The site is hand-written HTML and CSS with no JavaScript, no cookies, no tracking and no third-party embeds. That removes most of the common causes of failure.

What that means in practice

  • Every element you can interact with has a clearly visible focus indicator
  • The whole site can be operated with a keyboard alone
  • Body text meets or exceeds a 7:1 contrast ratio, above the 4.5:1 minimum
  • Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content or function
  • The layout reflows to a 320px viewport with no horizontal scrolling
  • Headings are properly ordered, with one level-one heading per page
  • Link text makes sense when read out of context
  • Nothing moves, flashes, auto-plays or rotates
  • No accessibility overlay or plug-in is used on this site

How this was tested

Tested by hand rather than by scanner alone, because automated tools catch only a minority of real problems. Testing covered keyboard-only navigation of every page, text zoom to 200%, reflow at 320px, and colour-contrast checks on every foreground and background pair. Automated checks were run with Lighthouse and WAVE.

Known limitations

  • The site has not yet been tested with a screen reader by a person who uses one daily. My own testing used VoiceOver and NVDA, which is not the same thing.
  • Documents I send to clients are produced case by case. I aim to make them accessible, but they are not covered by this statement.
